Flying into Sanford can feel a little more complicated than flying into MCO when you’re planning a Disney vacation.

If you’re looking for transportation from Sanford Airport to Disney World, it’s important to know that Disney does not provide direct transfers from this airport, so you’ll need to arrange your own ride.

Sanford Airport is about 50 miles from Walt Disney World, and the drive typically takes around an hour depending on traffic.

Because it’s farther from the parks than Orlando International, you won’t find as many airport shuttle services, like Mears, but there are still several reliable ways to make the trip.

From budget-friendly rideshares to private transfers for larger groups, the right option depends on your travel style, group size, and whether you’ll need extras like car seats or accessible vehicles.

The Best Transportation From Sanford Airport To Disney World

Since Disney themselves do not provide transportation from the Sanford Airport, here are some alternative transportation methods that we recommend.

Depending on the size of your group and additionally needs of your group, some options may be better than others, such as needing car seats for children or needing wheelchair and ECV accessible vehicles.

1. Rideshare (Uber & Lyft)

Uber says that on average it takes 1 hour to get from the Sanford Airport to Disney World (it’s a little less than 50 miles).

This usually costs between $55-$65, with $63 being the average price.

If you upgrade to UberXL it’s closer to $83 on average.

Remember that traffic or construction could make the drive time longer and higher demand could increase these prices.

Lyft offers a comparable service and price.

Lyft is also an official partner with Disney.

I personally just check both apps before deciding which one will be cheaper and quicker.

One benefit of using rideshares is that they are available 24/7, while other shuttle services and private transfers may not be.

Uber also offers Uber Reserve where you can request your ride at least 2 hours in advance all the way up to 90 days in advance.

You just have to check if it’s available in your app because it’s not always available.

If you choose this option, pickup is at designated areas across the street from baggage claim areas 1-3.

2. Taxis

Taxis aren’t really the most cost effective way to get from Sanford to Disney World because the average cost is between $130-$160.

Remember it’s about an hour away with average traffic.

Some people are just more familiar with taxis and comfortable with taxis as opposed to the newer rideshare options, which is totally fine.

That’s the only reason I wanted to list taxis as an option, even though for me, it would be my absolute last choice, but still an option.

3. Private Transportation

Private transportation appears to be the most plentiful option to get between the Sanford Airport and Disney World.

I personally like to use Viator for something like this because they have a ton of different providers who have also been reviewed by thousands of travelers.

Most private transfers are anywhere from $140-$250 each way for a regular sedan or for parties of 1-5 people.

Generally these don’t charge per person, but for the transfer itself, regardless of how many people are with you.

So if you’re traveling with friends or a group where you’ll all split the cost evenly, then this is super cost effective.

If you’re a family and one person is paying the whole thing, then it’s kind of expensive.

With these services, many of them offer premium pricing if you’re traveling after 10 pm or before 6 am.

Sometimes car seats can be included, sometimes they come with a premium.

Additionally, in the Orlando area, most private transfers offer the option to stop at a grocery store for 30 minutes along the way.

Some of these are included, while others offer it for an extra fee.

You’ll also want to consider the size of the vehicle you might need for your group.

Sometimes it’s cheaper to have 2 separate regular sized vehicles rather than one larger one that can accommodate everybody.

4. Rental Cars

Last but not least, rental cars are another great option to get from the Sanford Airport to Disney World.

What’s nice about this option is the freedom of transportation that you’ll have on your trip.

Disney World hotels offer free parking, so that isn’t something you’ll need to worry about.

Depending on the type of car you rent and the size of your group, sometimes having a rental car for a week can still be cheaper than these private transfers and rideshares.

However, sometimes it can become significantly more expensive because of gas, tolls, and parking places that aren’t at Disney.

I always recommend to check all of the options and see which one is the most convenient, most cost effective, and just feels right.

How To Get Around Disney World Without A Rental Car

Unlike the more popular Orlando International Airport, also known as MCO, the Sanford Airport does not have any partnerships with Disney World to provide transportation for guests.
